 Makeup looks for spring

I know it’s still pretty chilly outside and it’s a while yet until we can put those clocks forwards but I am cheerfully pretending that spring is well on its way. And that means just one thing – it’s time to think about spring makeup looks. And this spring it seems it’s quite simple: the bolder, the better. All the catwalks went for bright and bold looks, and both Clinique and MAC have recently released new collections for spring that are full of vibrant shades. This makes me so happy – I just can’t wait for spring to come and to start wearing bright and beautiful makeup.

But before I get too excited how bright are we talking? And how do we wear it?
Colour wise more is more. There’s not really a colour you can’t go for if you’re brave enough. Whatever colours you choose make sure they are the poster paint version of it – lilac, for example, needs to be bright and powerful, not a subtle pastel shade. Personally I am going to opt for turquoises, corals, lilacs and pretty pinks.

It seems that if you wear it bright you need to clash colours where you can. But importantly, not on your face! Don’t go for bright eyes and lips – it’s one or the other. Instead it’s all about clashing bright make up looks with bold clothing. For example if you wear a splash of emerald across your eyelids then you should wear it with some bright turquoise jeans.
When it come to lips think lilacs, corals and even some blues and greens. Barry M is always a safe bet when it comes to bright shades. One of their lip paints – either pretty pink or palest lavender should add a great slick of bold spring colour.

Finally to go alongside these brights, another big look for spring 2012 is cat-like eyes. And that means lashings of gel eyeliner. Both Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana went for this ultra-feminine look in their spring/summer 2012 shows. For the perfect flick and swish use Bobbi Brown’s long wear gel eye liner or, for a cheaper alternative, Maybelline’s new cat-eyes range.
